LBJ's War on Poverty versus the GOP's (Grossed Out Party) war on education, especially public education in favor of poverty

GOP leaders ignore evidence of War on Poverty’s improvements for students « Education Votes

The chief economist of the NEA said that the proposals found in this article have a common factor - the assumptions are not based on evidence, i.e., '“not evidence based.”'

America have some staunch proponents of states rights or rather states' sovereignty:  "House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) trotted out a worn and unproven solution: private school vouchers. House Budget Committee Chairman and former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan (R-WI) singled out public education as a central element in the perpetuation of poverty. Ryan’s recommendation: more education and housing vouchers, and greater community involvement. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a Tea Party stalwart, proposed that federal anti-poverty funds be given to states — or in Washington-speak, block grants — to distribute as they best see fit.

Why block grants?  It is the next thing to autonomy - after the government doles out the money.  According to the head economist of the NEA, “Block grants would turn back the clock to when governors and state legislators, many of whom are prone to less evidence-based and politicized approaches, spent taxpayer money less effectively, less efficiently and particularly with less accountability.”  That is what would make them most happy and feel triumphant to a high degree.

Richard Sims, chief economist of the NEA, goes on to provide more evidence-based issues the Republicans would rather not be reminded of, or that they aim to try hard to defeat if the voters throw in the towel and say, "go ahead, ruin my life."  I understand that there are some people who already feel that life is ruined - they have their reasons but this is not one of them.  If Americans really do want America to be a third world country, all we have to do is strip Americans of the power of education, or to restrict education to a select few, and as a nation, we will have arrived at some point in the Book of Revelation.

Troy Davis' Last Words

Watch Press Conference About Troy Davis' Last Words - Digg

@Ferkel. You say that like there has never been a history of pressure put on blacks to "conform" to others' demands on how they vote. You know better. Jim Crow was as alive then as it is now. Those who don't want to hear about "racist crap" are those who know that it weighs heavily in daily life, the justice system especially. That is an evasive attitude of avoiding truth.

As to what Officer MacPhail said to Troy Davis, it must be nothing since Davis maintained he did not kill the officer. With his last breath he adhered to his initial statements that he did not kill the man. For those who want to believe Davis killed him: he did, even if evidence were presented before their faces. And if you were there, you are an eye witness since you know he killed him - along with some of MacPhail's family members who "know." Only an eye witness can "know" beyond a shadow of a doubt. Peace.

Not the Only U.S. Education Scandal, But It's Said to be the Biggest

America's biggst teacher and principal cheating scandal unfolds in Atlanta - Yahoo! News

@Super Dog.  In case you mean that correct grammar and reasonable writing skills are reserved for "white folk" (or that some of them think they are), I suggest that you don't read much - if at all.  On the other hand, if you're justifying that others should not care about "errors" in any type of language usage, that's demeaning the "others."  There was a time when people white and black would be killed for providing avenues for "slaves" to learn because education is one of the first steps in shaking off slavery.  Nowadays, truly it is hard to tell the difference is most cases.  Not only are minorities being devastated by the education system in America but the ones whose forebears did not allow slaves to get one back then (if they got it they stole it at the risk of their lives).  It's suggestive of "as you sow, so shall you also reap" turning in upon us.

I advocate this:  whoever stands on the blind side of ignorance is ignorant.  Whoever is for learning, which could include little green or even purple kids or grownups (many are illiterate), then that sentiment comes from on High.  Only antisocialism wants people to be ignorant or tries to keep others ignorant.  That is proof that true education is not involved.  It is a pity for any Race under the sun to want to be different so much that that Race (or some elements of it) would want to wear the badge of illiteracy or enforce illiteracy upon another (if only by making one feel guilty for wanting to learn and "know").  It is very antisocial behavior.

No man is an island; ignorance can affect/effect me and anyone else.  If that is the case, then education will do the same thing.  Anyone who is ashamed to be educated is on the wrong planet I say.  One last thing, God did not give it to any sole entity to monopolize or OWN the goodness he gives - education is one.  Only those mentioned somewhere in the above would purport that or demand that it is so.   In the last analysis, though, God always gets the last laugh and the last word.  Peace.
